Pal Dardai is no longer an employee of Hertha BSC. The 49-year-old leaves the second-division football club and takes on the role of Head of Football at Újpest FC. The Berliners announced this on Thursday afternoon. Dardai was dismissed as head coach a year and a half ago and was previously a scout in Eastern Europe and brand ambassador. Since 1997, Dardai has been a member of the club. In 1997, he joined Hertha BSC as a 20-year-old from Budapest. Until 2011, he played for the club. He played 286 games in the first division for Hertha BSC - as many as no other professional before and after him. As a coach, he was initially active in the club's youth academy. In 2015, he took over as head coach after a brief stint as national coach of Hungary. His first stint as a professional coach ended in 2019. Two more followed, the last from April 2023 to June 2024. The club announced that Dardai will be honored as a flag bearer at Hertha BSC. With this title, the second-division club honors its greatest player and coach legends. Dardai: "I am and will remain a Herthaner, this club is my family", Dardai is quoted in the club's press release, "I connect so many beautiful moments with Hertha BSC and wish the club the best at all times."
