Hertha BSC wanted to keep small promotion hopes alive in Paderborn, but the Berliners started drowsy and experienced a real nightmare from the seventh minute. Paderborn's Sebastian Klaas ran unimpeded into Hertha's penalty area and only had to score the 1:0 lead. The 2:0 of the East Westphalians in the 21st minute by Tjark Scheller after a corner was checked for a possible handball for a long time, but was more than deserved. Much less deserved was Hertha's equalizer in the 39th minute to 1:2. Suddenly, Luca Schuler appeared in Paderborn's penalty area and conjured up a trick. With a hack and a lot of finesse, he converted a pass from Marten Winkler into a shot for Paderborn's goalkeeper Dennis Seimen. Paderborn could have scored even more goals, but Hertha coach Stefan Leitl tried to give his team new life after the break with a triple change and brought in Josip Brekalo, Niklas Kolbe and Pascal Klemens. The latter scored ten minutes later to 1:4, but Hertha's goalkeeper Tjark Ernst brought Stefano Marino unsteadily and violently to the ground in the penalty area, Mika Baur converted the inevitable penalty. It followed wild sequences: Raphael Obermair increased three minutes later to 5:1, before Hertha's Brekalo scored another 1.5 minutes later to 2:5.
